Australia's trade and economic relationship with Thailand has grown strongly since the beginning of the Thailand-Australia Free Trade Agreement (TAFTA).
Two-way trade reached $20.7 billion in 2019 making Thailand Australia's 8th largest trading partner.
Exports to Thailand from Australia totalled $6.1 billion in 2019 consistently predominantly of gold, crude petroleum, coal and aluminium, but interestingly education related travel exports reached a new high of $757 million.
TAFTA has also improved business mobility, encouraged international best practice, strengthened transparency, and promoted bilateral cooperation in a range of areas including government procurement, customs procedures, intellectual property protection and competition policy.
